No, this isn’t a scene from Highlander.. or at least we don’t think so. YouTube user H0lY3V1L posted a funny video that pointed out these two warriors sword fighting in what appears to be a vacant lot at the corner of Sampsonia Way and Federal St. in Northside. The epic battle between Askarus and Twolf of Angaron Dagorhir was captured in action by the Google Maps Street View team.
After further research, we realized it wasn’t a coincidental moment. It was an art project designed by two Carnegie Mellon students, Robin Hewlett and Ben Kinsley. The project, known as “Street With A View“, was executed on May 3, 2008 and finally published to Google Maps Street View in November ’08. A medieval sword fight wasn’t the only live exhibit to take place that day…
The project was supported by The Sprout Fund, CMU College of Fine Arts, CMU School of Art, and the Mattress Factory Museum. Over 50 locals participated in the day’s performances. Some of hilarious scenes include a guy dressed up as a bird, an escape from a window with bed sheets, a staged marathon, and a huge turkey in someone’s yard (our personal favorite).
Old news – but really cool! Who do you think won the battle?
