There's so much more to eat than this in Pittsburgh! (shoutout to lucius kwok for the pic)
We sometimes joke about the “Pittsburgh Palate” and how the tastebuds in this city seem to be stuck in the 19th century. It’s no secret that the BPGH crew is bored with the food here – but thanks to these dedicated foodies, we have found places to eat beyond Primanti’s and Eat’n Park. If you, too, are bored with the food in the Burgh, follow these food blogs for some enlightening introductions to some restaurants around Pittsburgh. Think of these bloggers as Royal Food Tasters of the Burgh. They try it, before you risk it.

The 2010 Bacon Bash with Mr. Baconpants - "Collateral Damage"
Saturday afternoon was the fourth annual Pittsburgh Bacon Bash, at the Harris Grill in Shadyside, the brainchild of Event organizer Jason Mosley (a.k.a: Mr. Baconpants), a man whose life ambition seems to be to do for bacon in Pittsburgh what Johnny Appleseed once did for apples in the American colonies..

Dozen Bakes Shop Grand Opening in Oakland
If the long lines snaking along Craig Street and Forbes Avenue this week are any indication, Oakland is ready for a regular cupcake fix. After giving away free cupcakes all week (and turning Craig Street into Baskin Robbins on 39-cent scoop night), the newest location of Dozen Cupcakes officially opened for business at 11:00 today. Trombone music and free cupcakes—party in Oakland!
Dozen’s owner James Gray (Andrew Twigg is the other one) is obviously psyched about his new location, which was last home to a beauty shop. He says he’d been hoping to move into Craig Street for a while, and then one day he was making a delivery to Squirrel Hill and was thrilled to finally see a for-rent sign. A couple days later, the 500-square foot space was his.

Bacon Bash: A day to celebrate one of Pittsburgh favorite foods, BACON!
Vegetarians click here. Bacon lovers, read on! MrBaconPants is back in Pittsburgh, this time with the Bacon Bash at Harris Grill on Ellsworth in Shadyside. They really couldn't have picked a better spot for the event. Harris Grill is well known for their bacon nights on Tuesdays. That's where they have baskets of bacon sitting on the bar in place of stale peanuts and pretzels.
Last year, MrBaconPants was at Harris Grill for a bacon tour and it was a huge success. They had a bacon eating competition where some dude ate an entire 3 pounds of bacon in three minutes! 85 people were there chomping on gourmet bacon eats, and that was the day after the G20… this year is bound to be even more exciting.

CoCo's Cupcake Cafe in Shadyside is Closed (flickred by Rrrrred)
A long time ago, the loyal subscribers of Boring Pittsburgh decided that they preferred other cupcakes over the ones baked at CoCo’s. Not only did Dozen beat CoCo’s, but we were shocked when a bakery that wasn’t listed on the poll (Vanilla Pastry Studio) also beat them.
Our readers predicted the fate of CoCo’s Cupcake Cafe. The place closed their doors for good on June 27th.

Razzy Fresh Frozen Yogurt Grand Opening!
The recent grand opening of Razzy Fresh on Murray Ave guaranteed Squirrel Hill a seat on the fro-yo bandwagon (right next to Oakland and Shadyside). This area has no shortage of ice-cream stores (nor a shortage of pizza or coffee shops), but who eats ice-cream anymore?
