What used to be an integral member of Industrial America, has now become a piece of art… or should we say a place of art. The rusty old mill has been transformed by artists of all niches. It has become a canvas for graffiti, a theme for musicians, a setting for videos, a subject for photographers, and if everything goes as planned, it will one day serve as a national park.
Looking Ahead
The Carrie Blast Furnace has weathered many storms since the 1880′s, yet proudly stands 92′ tall with optimism for what the future holds – for the land it sits on, for Pittsburgh, and for America. Dilapidated rust belt structures might appear to be drab and depressing from afar, but the closer you get, the colors become explosive, and the interesting stories are impossible to ignore. Pittsburgh photography professionals Veronica Varos and Bridgett Kay did an incredible job of covering the tour for Boring Pittsburgh, but even their beautiful photos can’t replace the feeling of being at the Carrie Furnace site in person. The sounds, the smells, the history. You have to experience it for yourself…
