This Saturday, from 11am-7pm, motorcycle and scooter enthusiasts from all over will gather in South Side Works for Pittsburgh’s first vintage motorcycle and scooter rally! The Vintage Grand Prix is a classic Burgh event, but it’s always during a time when people choose to go on vacation! If you missed the cars back in July, or if you just prefer two wheels to four, then you don’t want to miss Steel City Rockers vs. Mods!

Bacon Bash: A day to celebrate one of Pittsburgh favorite foods, BACON!
Vegetarians click here. Bacon lovers, read on! MrBaconPants is back in Pittsburgh, this time with the Bacon Bash at Harris Grill on Ellsworth in Shadyside. They really couldn't have picked a better spot for the event. Harris Grill is well known for their bacon nights on Tuesdays. That's where they have baskets of bacon sitting on the bar in place of stale peanuts and pretzels.
Last year, MrBaconPants was at Harris Grill for a bacon tour and it was a huge success. They had a bacon eating competition where some dude ate an entire 3 pounds of bacon in three minutes! 85 people were there chomping on gourmet bacon eats, and that was the day after the G20… this year is bound to be even more exciting.

Maya Design Studio in SouthSide Works
A few months ago, we wrote about Joseph-Beth Booksellers and how they moved to across the street. It would appear that the old bookstore is still vacant with “We’ve Moved” posters still taped to the doors and windows. Back in April, the I Made It! Market: Chili w/ the Works craft show was held in the empty space and it was fun, but something’s gotta give. Empty buildings like this are boring!
You might have noticed a really cool sign on the top of the building that says “MAYA” with an upside-down A. How long has that sign been there?! After a quick search, it turns out that MAYA is a big time design firm – in their own words they are a “design consultancy and technology research lab”. Ok, but why does their sign look like a nightclub?! Maybe not a nightclub, but it made us think something fun and exciting was going to fill the void.

The Boogie Hustlers at The Rex: Friday, May 14th, 2010 at 9:00pm
Let’s just go ahead and call them “Pittsburgh’s own”—not just because they’re from Pittsburgh, which they are, but also because they seem to be on the verge of becoming bigger than their hometown. There’s a part of me that almost doesn’t want The Boogie Hustlers to get any bigger than they are now. Besides the fear that their music will lose its heartbeat if and when they find a major label and a producer to match, I would also miss being able to see them at The Rex Theater in Southside.
