The holidays are officially here! Take a break from shopping (and Pittsburgh) and drive up to Hartwood Acres with a car full of friends and family for the annual “Rite Aid Celebration of Lights”. The 3.2 miles of holiday glow was formerly known as the Eckerd Celebration of Lights until they were aquired by Rite Aid in 2007.

2009 marks the 18th year that Hartwood Acres has held this event. That’s 18 years of raising funds for multiple charities ranging from Project Bundle Up to the Children’s Miracle Network. It is estimated that about 2 million colorful lights are used for the amazing display and there’s something for everyone – from animals to sports, and reindeer to giant menorahs. Be sure to stop at Starbucks (or your favorite local coffee shop) and get some hot cocoa and snacks before you go.

If you don’t make it to Hartwood for the holidays, you can go on a Mansion and Stable tour all year round. .
