The Johnny Cupcakes Suitcase Tour is making a stop in Pittsburgh next week. On Tuesday, May 4th, Johnny will driving the CupcakeMobile from Columbus to the Burgh. The event will be at Dozen Bake Shop in Lawrenceville, starting at 7:00pm.

For those of you who don’t know about Johnny Cupcakes, you probably would have never guessed that the company’s line of business has nothing to do with cakes, pastries, or baked goods. It’s a clothing brand that started out as a joke while Johnny Earle was on tour with his band back in 2000. He would pack suitcases with t-shirts he designed and sell them out of the trunk of his car. The designs always incorporate the brand’s iconic skull and bones logo, but instead of the skull there’s a cupcake image over a set of crossbones.

The Johnny Cupcakes brand quickly turned viral and the t-shirt company that started out of the back of an ’89 Camry is no longer a joke. In fact, Johnny Cupcakes is now regarded as one of the best young entrepreneurs and is often hired by business schools to lecture about going into business on shoestring budgets. His company had over 3 million dollars of revenue back in 2008 alone!

So what is Mister Cupcakes doing at Dozen next week? We don’t really know, but this is your chance to meet the man himself – and maybe eat a cupcake or two while waiting for him to autograph your shirt. The event details have been vague other than the fact that Miss Pittsburgh 2009 will be there, too. No offense to Miss Pittsburgh 2009, but we weren’t even aware there was such a person! So this will be a great chance to meet her as well.
