Hello Bistro South Side Review
The first thing you should expect from Hello Bistro’s newest location on E. Carson Street in the Southside is a great attitude and a standard of customer service that is hard to come by in the hustle of the food industry. I was invited to visit the restaurant a few days after it opened its second location (their first successful location is in Oakland) and immediately felt the fun and warmth from the managers and employees. I was greeted with smiles and a crowd of eager salad-makers ready to spill their personal HB favorites, while asking me what BoringPGH is all about.
The vibe at Hello Bistro is sassy and fun with great music, and a sweet Lionel Richie chalk portrait on the wall to boot. Hello Bistro is a concept from the ever-popular Eat-n-Park that features burgers and salads, and a variety of both (their tagline is Burgers. Salads. Together– appropriate, right?). HB prides itself on offering a ton of healthy choices while also being indulgent. There are some Eat-n-Park regulars like the Superburger, potato soup, and of course, Smiley cookies. But what’s so great about what HB does differently are the options. Tons of chef-perfected salads, burgers, and sandwiches, as well as the option for you to create your own salad, with over 55 ingredients to choose from.
After pouring over the menu, which is simple yet extensive, I decided on a staff favorite – the Apple Almond Crunch Salad. Holy moly is this salad filling! A delicious vinaigrette splashed on almonds, apples, and chicken is sure to fill you up. Please, I beg of you, wash it down with a Boylan’s soda- ON TAP. I rarely drink soda, but Boylan’s ginger ale was the perfect combination to this salad. Besides the awesome grown up menu, Hello Bistro also has a “Tiny Humans” menu for youngsters (don’t worry, kid-adults can order from here too), as well as milkshakes, floats, and oh… bottled beer! Seriously, who wouldn’t want to grab a summer salad, some beer, and enjoy it while sitting outside watching the passers-by on Carson Street?
One thing I really felt from talking with the staff about HB was the freshness that this eatery wants to bring to the area. This past year has seen some great restaurants pop-up in the Southside, amidst the never-ending bar scene. What sets Hello Bistro apart is the affordability, flexibility, and diversity they bring to all three meals. If you’re in the Southside doing some shopping at the Works, searching for some early morning sustenance after a great Friday night, or looking for an affordable option for a first date, Hello Bistro is bound to surprise you with a medley of options.
Thanks for having me, Hello Bistro! Thank you for your support of local businesses, your commitment to creating a great atmosphere, and your continual deliverance of delicious and affordable food! Pittsburgh, head to one of their locations and treat yourself to a meal you will not regret!
