Dear Pittsburgh Forum,

Thank you for being a part of this community. Starting a forum is not an easy undertaking (especially with sites like twitter and facebook to consume most of our time spent online), but so far the group is growing quickly and accumulating wonderful members and a useful database of information about Pittsburgh and other topics. Now that we’ve built the overall framework and successfully overhauled the site for a better user experience, it’s time to focus more on what our members want to get out of the forum.

What other sections would you like to see here? What are some changes we should consider making? We realize there are a lot of passive readers that browse the site, what would make you become more actively involved?

We’re looking forward to your feedback below, and starting the new year together in Boring Pittsburgh!

Sincerely,

The BPGH Team

First time here for a while. I tried to post something the other day but I guess it was down for the update. Looks great! thumbsup

My instinct is to say more sections like neighborhoods and stuff would be good, but I also like the simplicity of having one main Pittsburgh section. Maybe a for sale section?

Happy new year cheers

Contests are always fun! I really want to win a Burgh Verified shirt. (wink wink)

My name is Anne with an "e." I call myself Anne of Grey Gables because it is always cloudy and grey in my city. Can't you even imagine you're in the depths of despair?

I agree with Best412…some neighborhood coverage and a for sale section would be cool.worship

We originally planned for a for sale section, but thought it wouldn’t get much use with other sites like Craigslist. The Steel City Marketplace section has been put back on the site for a trial period to see how it goes, starting with the Business Directory/Spam Section. This is an area for local businesses to post almost anything they want – free advertising in a way.

As for neighborhood sections, this was also a consideration in the beginning, but there were a few reasons for switching the format back to a general Pittsburgh section (ie: too many different sections can become confusing and overwhelming). This is another idea that we will consider as the forum grows.

Keep the feedback and suggestions rolling in. Happy posting wink

There’s a Pittsburgh Flea Market page/group, and it gets TONS of use. It’s so busy that I don’t usually bother with it, frankly. BUT, a ‘for sale’ section here might, I think, do really well despite Craigslist, based on how popular the FB group became, and how fast.

We still haven’t seen a single post in the Business Directory (now also called Free Advertising), except for the one that was moved there as an example yell

But we will put the sale section back for a trial period… as well as a new Help Wanted section for job postings.

Maybe it’s because of the 10 post rule?

You are probably right, but there should be a post minimum to prevent people from coming here to drop their links/sales info and disappear forever. The least we ask of our members is to actively participate in the forum in exchange for an opportunity to post about their business, product, website, or whatever, in the Free Advertising section. If they are unwilling to be part of the community first, then they should not be trying to get the members of this site to support them.

10 posts is really not a big deal. Other forums make you have 50 or more to promote your stuff. Boring Pittsburgh does not have a post requirement for posting events, and just 10 for the Business Directory. cool
