What is the little red flag for?
That's the "Subscribe to Topic" button. Subscribe to a topic, if you want to be emailed when new posts are added to a thread. When you login to the forums, you can see how many of your subscribed topics have new posts by checking the number next to the flag on the top login bar.
Then what's the magnifying glass for?
That's the "Watch Topic" button. Watching a thread is like bookmarking it for later. It's a way to remind you which threads you're interested in but do not want to subscribe to.
Why aren't my Social Network links working right?
When adding accounts to your Social Identity tab, do not add the full URL. You only need to add your account name. For example, on the Twitter tab, we would type "BoringPgh"… NOT "Tweets by BoringPGH"
How can I link a picture from Flickr?
Flickr changed their site around a little. When
you get the link to the photo, it's actually not a link to an actual
file anymore… instead, it's a link to the Flickr page.
- Right click the photo
- You will see a notice about the usage rights and the available sizes.
- Click one of the sizes and it will take you to another page with the different sizes.
- Now choose the photo size you want and right click again.
- Click "copy image location"
- Then come back to the forum to post your picture via "Image URL"
Why does my post need to be approved?
All posts by unregistered guests must first be approved by a moderator before being visible to the rest of the forum community. To avoid your post being held for moderation, please register.
Why should I register?
Some of our forums are open to guest posts, but not all. When you post
as a guest, your post must be approved by a moderator before it can be
seen by the public. Registering opens all of the forums to viewing and
posting with approval. You also have to register in order to see any
links posted by members. Once you register, you can create a profile
with your website and other social networking links. You also have the
ability to add an avatar to your posts. Get the most out of the
Pittsburgh Forums, register here.
How do I add a signature to my post?
To add a signature to a post you must first create one via your Control Panel. Click the Profile button on the login strip at the top. Go to the "Set Up Your Signature Tab".
What are pinned (sticky) topics?
Pinned topics within the forum are the first threads that appear in a topic. They are often quite important so you should read them
whenever possible. As with locked topics and announcements, pinned topics are set by the moderators of the board.
What are locked topics?
Locked topics are topics where users can no longer reply. Topics may be locked for many reasons and were set this way by either the forum moderator or board administrator.
What is an "Administrator"?
Administrators are members assigned with the highest level of control over the entire board. These members can control all facets of board operation, including setting permissions, banning users, creating usergroups or moderators, etc. They also have full moderator capabilities in all forums. The Boring Pittsburgh team shares the responsibility of "Admin".
What is a "Moderator"?
Moderators are individuals who look after the forums from day to day. They have the authority to edit or delete posts and lock, unlock, move, delete and split topics in the forum they moderate. Generally, moderators are present to prevent users from going off-topic or posting abusive or offensive material.
