Laurelin Kruse:
Laurelin began writing songs as a student at Yale, surviving several short-lived college romances to sing about them. Her funny-dark performance style is borne from her training with Yale's frankest and bleakest musical improv comedy troupe. Kruse released her debut full-length album No Town in May 2011. Her newest work, Winter in Mind, is said to be “a golden pot of Americana styled folk to transport you to vast, spacey desert plains.”

PITTSBURGH, PA – On Thursday, May 23 beginning at 6 p.m.,guests will be able to enjoy specials on Crabbie’s, Original Alcoholic Ginger Beer, a 4.8% ABV, refreshing ginger beer – only for grown-ups – at Hough’s Taproom & Brewpub (563 Greenfield Avenue, 412-586-5944). Crabbie’s will be available served chilled over ice with a slice of lemon or lime for $4 and in a variety of cocktails for $6. Guests may also order from a selection of dishes created by the chef to complement the ginger beer.

Crabbie’s was recently featured in a “Taste Test”via Huffington Post: “the UK’s best-selling ginger beer is finally available in the U.S., and we are quite pleased about it.” Fermented with the finest imported ginger and steeped for up to eight weeks to allow the complex natural flavors to fully develop, Crabbie’s is a smooth ginger beer with deep, deliciously spicy flavor and a sparkling finish.

Throughout the evening, Hough’s will feature Crabbie’s as it is meant to be served, over ice with a slice of citrus, for just $4 as well as in a few cocktails, such as: Crabbie’s Pine Punch, Crabbie’s with pineapple juice, over ice with a pineapple slice; Dark & Crabbie, dark rum with Crabbie’s; and Ginger Buck, gin with Crabbie’s and a splash of fresh lemon juice.

For guests who’d like a bite with their Crabbie’s, the kitchen will prepare: Ginger Wings; Ginger-Barbecue Pulled Pork Sandwiches; Soft Pretzels with ginger dipping sauce; and Ginger Cookies for dessert. Snacks will range in price from $5 to $9.

“We’re thrilled to welcome Pittsburgh beer fans to Hough’s and celebrate this one-of-a-kind ginger beer, perfect during this fun Crabbie’s happy hour or any hour of the day,” says Phil Clarke, general manager of St. Killian, the exclusive US importer of Crabbie’s.

Scottish merchant-adventurer John Crabbie first imported ginger from the Far East into the ancient port of Leith, Edinburgh in 1801. Today, more than 200 years later, John Crabbie’s still uses the same ginger to develop the one-of-a-kind flavor of their ginger beer. Since Crabbie’s entered the U.S. market last year, it has earned high praise, including Bon Appetit, which called it “a ginger beer that lives up to its name.” Crabbie’s was named “Best in Show” by greater San Francisco’s Fairfax Beer Festival, where it held its own against some of the nation’s top domestic craft breweries. The Weekly Pint named it among their “Class of 2012, The Top Brews to Find and Drink Right Now,” and 7x7 featured Crabbie’s as one of their “Healthy Beers for the New Year.”

For more information about Crabbie’s, please visit them on Facebook or follow them on Twitter (@CrabbiesUSA). To share your own Crabbie’s recipes, photos and more, use hashtag #Crabbieshour and enjoy Crabbie’s any hour of the day.

Tweet with: #Beerfest17

The country’s only all European Beerfest of its kind for 17 years, we feature only European beers that are brewed in Europe. Last year we had 135 different beers of which 40 were Belgian. The event is held under a large tent sunshine or rain! Come meet the importers of these fine beers!

Admission includes 3 hours of tasting all the different beers that we have to offer. Upon entering you receive an official “Sharp Edge Tasting Glass” that is yours to keep. Your name will be entered into a drawing to win beer-related items during the last hour of each session. We have live entertainment during each session as well as homemade food available for purchase under the tent.

--Also--

The Ultimate Bier Dinner will be held on Friday, June 28, at 6:30 p.m. at Sharp Edge Beer Emporium.

Lionel Van der Haegen, from Brasserie de Silly Brewery, will be serving some of his limited beer selections from his brewery. Van der Haegen is a sixth generation owner/brewer of this family-owned brewery located in the Hainaut Province of Wallonia, southwest of Brussels. An authentic Belgian dinner will be prepared by our culinary director, Ray Ellis. A beer from Brasserie de Silly Brewery will be paired with each of our five courses by our Cellarman, Brett McMahan.
