Pens First Game of Last Season @ Mellon
If you were following the Pens all through their Stanley Cup Championship, the above video is sure to give you chills. Tonight at 7:30pm, the Pittsburgh Penguins will face off against the New York Rangers @ Mellon Arena. Watch the ceremony tonight (on the big screen outside the Igloo) as they raise the championship banner. What channel is the game on? FSN.
The Mellon Arena, which has been part of Pittsburgh’s landscape for 38 years, will be gone after this season. There is a new arena in town called the Console Energy Center. Just another ridiculous name – this city is turning into one big commercial. What happened to the names that provided a sense of community and gave this city an identity, like “The Civic Arena” or the “Three Rivers Stadium“? Now, it just seems a little sellout-ish… And don’t even mention the UPMC conquering of Pittsburgh’s iconic Steel Building (aka U.S. Steel Tower – the 126th tallest building in the world) – now it’s more like Mordor.
Go Pens! Good luck tonight!
