Pimp My Steelers Bye Week
Only four weeks into the NFL season and we’re already taking a break. Is it too soon or just in time? Considering the growing injury report and 1-2 record, I’d say it’s just in time. But what is Steeler Nation to do with a week without Steelers football? Do you tackle that to-do list you’ve been putting off since the spring or do you watch all the other games as if Tomlin and LeBeau are going to call you on Monday morning for your input? Or do you just kick back and relax and enjoy a Sunday free of shouting “Geez Ben get rid of the ball!… Man he’s so great at extending the plays.” What are the Steelers themselves doing with the week off?
A lot of the Steelers players are going to be taking the time off to spend with their families and do the things they can’t normally fit into a week schedule. Some go home, some will go watch their college team play, and some will probably sit on their ass and do nothing, heck that’s what I’m gonna do. Troy Polamalu and his family took in the Friday night lights of a good ole fashion Western PA high school football game. Ben and his wife had their baby shower this weekend. LaMarr Woodley traveled back to his hometown in Michigan to film a segment for ESPN, and Ryan Clark supported his daughter’s cheer team. Boy those are some busy guys. I’ll be lucky to get my laundry done before work on Monday.
When we all saw the schedule first hand we cringed at the idea of having the bye week so friggin early. But now that it means some rest and regrouping after an up and down start to the season, the bye week right now doesn’t seem so bad. It gives some Steelers some time to heal and Steeler Nation some time to relax and step away from the panic button. It’s almost like resetting the season. It didn’t necessarily start off exactly the way we wanted, so let’s just start over. Go ahead and feel free to adopt a new game day ritual, change up your Sunday outfit combo and consider the season a do-over when the Eagles come to town next Sunday.
In the meantime, realize that you don’t have to listen to the likes of Chris Berman, Phil Sims, Dan Fouts, or Chris Collingsworth if you don’t want to. Kick back and relax Steeler Nation, it’s been a rough few games to start off on, it’s a long season and we’re going to need our energy for the duration.
