While most of Pittsburgh was at work, local high-school students decided to skip class and protest the appointment of Betsy DeVos as the new education secretary.
They started Downtown and went across the Smithfield Street Bridge, over to Station Square. Stopped in front of Pat Toomey’s office (Toomey voted for DeVos despite this). Then the group made their way back to Market Square.
The Senate vote tied, but for the first time in history, the tie was broken by a confirmation vote by the Vice President. More here.
