Some PNC ATMs were hacked. First in Forest Hills, then in Fox Chapel (and who knows where else). According to the report here, the unsuspecting bank customers simply used their debit cards to withdraw funds from the MAC machine (please note that “MAC” cards tend to be a Pittsburgh thing – everyone else seems to just call them ATM cards) and then noticed about $1,400 gone by the weekend.

The couple went to the branch and was told that the ATM had been compromised when a card reader was installed on the machine.

Matt Blaze, a computer security researcher, wrote an article called “ATMs Can Fail Too” after seeing a weird code on PNC ATM screen (pictured above). Maybe we should all just go back to using cash. But then again, after 5pm you have to go to an ATM to get the cash.

What do you think… Does this make you nervous to use PNC ATMs?
