His name is Wiz Khalifa and he’s been representing Pittsburgh through his rap records since the 2006 debut album “Show and Prove”. Now he’s released his second album titled “Deal or No Deal” and it not only made it to the top-ten album downloads on iTunes… it hit #1. Whether you appreciate hip-hop music or not, it feels good to see any fellow Pittsburgher climbing to the top – so let’s applaud him.
Among other songs like Pittsburgh Sound and Youngin On His Grind, Wiz Khalifa is known for his 2008 track Say Yeah which includes a sample of the vocal trance “Better Off Alone” by Alice Deejay. Khalifa was even featured in a Rolling Stone article where he talked about living overseas in England, Germany, and Japan – he was quoted saying “The whole time, I wished I was back in Pittsburgh”. This guy loves it here. Some of his lyrical references to the ‘Burgh include:
I Got That Pittsburgh Sound
And Imma Always Hold Pittsburgh Down
His Name… It’s Wiz Khalifa Man
The Place… That Steel City Damn
And My Pittsburgh Tat Match The Ball Cap
Ain’t Nothing Changed
Na, I Rep The Burgh All Day
During his senior year at Allderdice, Khalifa got his name out by selling mix-tapes at school. By now, the music is reaching well beyond PGH, but he still remembers where it all began. Watch the interview on the TV below where he talks about hanging out in clubs in the Strip District, South Side, and his neighborhood, Edgewood…

i got the album from itunes too. its decent but i def wouldnt compare wiz to someone like jayz. the tracks are catchy and decent, but sometimes the lyrics lack substance. its def cool to hear pittsburgh shoutouts in most of his songs. everyone in pittsburgh who listens to rap should buy this album.
I thought I liked this dude’s new cd and I follow him on Twitter
I want that chain.
