Wiz Khalifa Rolling Papers Tour in Pittsburgh

Wiz Khalifa Rolling Papers Tour in Pittsburgh

After selling out every show in his worldwide “Rolling Papers” tour, Wiz Khalifa made his final stop in none other than Pixburgh, PA (before heading off finish the tour in Europe). This was the show to be at.

DJ Bonics hit the stage first with his iconic oversize glasses and sticker covered Macbook Pro. Then Chevy Woods and Big Sean. 2 hours and 40 minutes later, the star finally made his entrance. When the piano started playing the opening notes of When I’m Gone, the wait was justified.

Wiz kicked off with a few of his earlier songs for the pre-Black and Yellow fans in the crowd. If you just boarded the Taylor Gang plane during Super Bowl XLV, then you might have felt out of place. With Wiz’s rocket launch into mainstream fame and success, it’s easy to forget that Young Khalifa’s mixtape roots span back to 2005 when he was still a high school student at Allderdice.

Not to knock Chevy Woods and Big Sean, but as soon as Wiz Khalifa hit the stage, it was clear that he was on a different level. He was born for this life. The way Wiz evolved from mixtapes to chart domination is something most start-up rap artists couldn’t achieve even if they had 5 lifetimes to try… and he laughs while doing it. You know, that Wiz Khalifa laugh. He laughed a lot during the show, especially when we has cooling off the crowd with a Super Soaker.

Bill Paladino was in action on the stage recording the entire event, hopefully for the next Day Today episode.

By the time Roll Up started, the crowd was too wasted to know what was happening. When Wiz’s girlfriend stepped out on stage long enough for him to glide his tongue up her leg, most of the fans just stood there with no reaction. Maybe they were too high to recognize that it was Amber Rose. Or, maybe it was a result of the terrible setup which made it almost impossible for anyone under 5’8″ to see what was happening on stage.

Then something special happened. Khalifa stopped in the midst of a song and gazed over at the Pittsburgh skyline where fireworks were showering down on the city from PNC Park. The look on his face was priceless. If you believe in the Law of Attraction, this guy has it down pat (he talks about it in Star of the Show – I made a million on my own/may come to your surprise, but I pictured it all along). Perfect timing would be an understatement and Wiz and his crew went with the flow. While the crowd was distracted by the view and chanting “let’s go Bucs,” DJ Bonics dropped the Black and Yellow beat and Wiz took ownership of the moment, singing his hit song with every ounce of energy he had in him.

Thanks for an awesome performance, Wiz, we’ll be the first in line to buy tickets to your next show in Pittsburgh.

The conclusion

Wiz Khalifa is a bona-fide superstar and he put on a incredible performance. It was exciting to see the Prince of the City perform in Pittsburgh, but it would have been better to wait for him to play at the Consol Energy Center. He just deserved a better venue to perform at.
