I’m Gonna Miss the Igloo (lyrics)

Performed by Jimmy T

I don’t know what you saw and I don’t know what you heard,
But the Pens aren’t going to be leavin’ Pittsburgh.
We were scared for years that they might be moving,
All we’re worried ’bout now, is winning and losin’.
Well Pitt Stadium‘s gone and Three Rivers is too,
Now they’re gonna tear down the Igloo.
It’s where the Pens won the Cup back to back,
And where Jean-Claude Van Damme stopped a terrorist attack.
The ice always seems a little greener,
When you watch the game from somewhere other than the Mellon Arena.
But what I say is true,
I’m gonna miss the Igloo.
I guess the Pens will have a new place to call their home,
And it won’t be an old beat up falling down dome.
They’ll build a statue of Mario most likely,
But Crosby‘s the one everyone will go to see.
We’ll house more concerts and bigger shows,
But we won’t have a roof that opens but we always leave closed.
Well the ice always seems a little greener,
When you watch the game from somewhere other than the Mellon Arena.
But what I say is true,
I’m gonna miss the Igloo.
It ain’t Boston Garden or Madison Square,
But I’m gonna miss it because the Penguins play there.
I’m sure that the new place will be pretty nice,
But Kevin Stevens, Ulf SamuelssonJoey Mullen, Ron Francis, Tom Barrasso, and Mario Lemieux will never play on that ice.
There’s been a haunted house in the basement,
There can never be a real replacement.
I’ll miss the magic, the hat tricks, the 90’s version of Craig Patrick,
And all the goals that were ever scored.
I’ll bring my toughness level up a notch,
I don’t know if I’ll cry when the Civic Arena winds its watch.
