Growing Old With Kid Cudi

Kid Cudi Performing Live Concert in Pittsburgh

Kid Cudi Concert in Pittsburgh (pic by @robgoingham)

I can tell you the exact moment I knew I was old. Not just, oh, my knees creak when I get up old, but Wow. Teenagers think I’m an idiot old. It was Friday, September 16th, at the Kid Cudi concert at the Trib Total Media Amphitheatre.

My 15 year old son was jealous we were going. My 16 year old babysitter was jealous we were going. The signs were all there.

We pulled into the parking garage at Station Square, and like any other 36 year old adult people, fired back some rum drinks. Do you see why we were delusional enough to think we weren’t too old for this? We still tailgate for hip-hop concerts. Why didn’t anyone try to stop us? Where were our friends?

Trading Places with Usher: OMG Tour 5/11/11

Usher OMG Tour in Pittsburgh 5-11-2011 recap

Usher OMG Tour in Pittsburgh 5-11-2011 at Consol Energy Center

USHER was in town last night and we sent out one of our staff to cover the performance.

The reigning King of R&B put on an incredible show for Pittsburgh at the Consol Energy Center. He sang it all, from his debut 1997 hit to the more recent singles from Raymond V. Raymond and Versus. The concert opened with Akon and closed with Usher singing the title song of the tour, OMG.

He made his first appearance to the crowd by hovering way up in the air on a platform that was pulled from the back of the arena to the stage. In the middle of the excitement, Usher took a moment to pay his respects to his idol and mentor Michael Jackson. He pulled it off with class and the crowd was going wild!  Full of pyrotechnics and intricately choreographed dance routines, @UsherRaymondIV gave Pittsburgh a 5 star performance.

Check out the 50+ pictures of the show below!

Justin Bieber Saves the Terrible Towel

Ok, we promised you guys no Justin Bieber videos, but this one is for the Terrible Towel – so get over it. Besides, we owe it to ourselves and our paid sponsors this holiday season, because posting anything about Justin Bieber is bound to increase our traffic 10 fold. Increased traffic means more clicks for our sponsors, and they deserve it! The only regret is that we didn’t post this sooner lol.

The Beebs (as Julia Gongaware called him) had a concert in Pittsburgh’s Consol Energy Center on 12/13/2010 and just as he was about to start lip-syncing singing his hit song Baby, he threw a Terrible Towel into a vicious crowd of tweens. A couple of girls  grabbed the towel at the same time and started a war of tug, and before it could rip down the middle, the Beebs stopped his show with a “Yo Yo Yo” and saved the honor of Myron Cope’s black and gold terrycloth legacy. Then the jag-off had to restart the song again because he came down with a case of the laughies.

So before you scroll over to hit the unsubscribe button, search within your heart for an ounce of Steelers pride and understand that we only posted this video because there was a Terrible Towel in it.

The Sweetback Sisters @ Thunderbird Cafe

The Sweetback Sisters are playing at Thunderbird Cafe in Lawrenceville on Sunday, August 8th, 2010

Sweetback Sisters will be at Thunderbird Cafe in Lawrenceville on Sunday, August 8th (by kenficara)

I can’t help but think of the B-52’s when I hear the Sweetback Sisters. No, I don’t mean that they make you want to hear “Rock Lobster.” Although the Sisters’ two primary singers, Zara Bode and Emily Miller, do like to dress alike onstage, they remind me a lot of the way Cindy Wilson and Kate Pierson sing together in that their voices and singing styles complement each other well,

and they always sound like they’re having a good time singing together. The enthusiasm of the singers makes the infectiousness of The Sweetback Sisters’ sound a foregone conclusion. They’re going to be at the Thunderbird Café in Lawrenceville on Sunday, August 8th. The Thunderbird is renowned both for its acoustics and for the unusually eclectic variety of artists who perform there.
