Steel Town Filming in Pittsburgh July 18, 2011

Steel Town Filming Downtown Pittsburgh

Steel Town Filming Downtown Pittsburgh?

Boring Pittsburgh received an image of a letter that was distributed to residents of 3 Allegheny Center today informing them that a production company will be filming nearby on Monday (7/18/2011). We’re going to venture a guess and say this is probably Steel Town, since the Batman group will be doing most of their filming throughout August.

What the letter says:

Attention Tenants of Three Allegheny Center

Today, Allegheny Center was made aware of a production company who will be filming a movie on location around the area of the New Hazlett Theater and Allegheny Square East on Monday, July 18, 2011, between the hours of 6:00am and 12:00 midnight.

During this time, you will need to exit Allegheny Square East from the current exit point (the street will be two way traffic for the day). We are told that police officers will be posted in this area for traffic control.

There were set trucks parked on Liberty between 28th & 31st St today.

The Dark Knight Rises is scheduled to shoot a scene at Heinz Field and they want to fill the stadium with Steelers fans like YOU! For yinzer comic book fans this is a dream come true. The only thing that could make August 6, 2011 any better is if Troy Polamalu throws on a Gotham Rogues uniform and plays strong safety for the cameras.

Pittsburgh 48 Hour Film Project

The Pittsburgh 48 Hour Film Project

Have fun with your friends. Make a movie. (thanks katinalynn for the pic)

Instead of waiting in line for hours at casting calls, you could be making your own movie. Pittsburgh has undoubtedly been dubbed the Hollywood of the East, so get your cameras out and be a part of it! Don’t know where to start? That’s why you should join the 48 Hour Film Project this summer and get some direction (and a deadline) to translate your ideas to the silver screen.

But I didn’t go to filmschool

You don’t have to be a professional filmmaker to participate in the 48 Hour Film Project, but it’s an excellent opportunity to challenge yourself to complete a fun project within a weekend. It’s a great chance to work with friends or other creative people you’ve always wanted to collaborate with.

Steel Town aka Still I Rise, Now Filming (pics!)

"Steel Town" aka "Still I Rise" filming on location in Pittsburgh 5/23/2011

"Steel Town" aka "Still I Rise" filming on location in Pittsburgh. Base Camp at Civic Arena!

Steel Town begins filming in Pittsburgh today. So far the second out of three films that are calling the Burgh home this summer. It has been a lot of fun tracking the Perks of Being a Wallflower crew, and Batman will be here before we know it.

As if it isn’t cool enough that Pittsburgh is the Hollywood of the East, it also happens to be the setting of a few of the stories. “Steel Town” will be based on an inner-city Pittsburgh school! Perks was written by a Pittsburgher and takes place here too. Remember when Russell Crowe was in town with The Next Three Days? That movie also took place in the 412.

The Burgh is on the map.

Thanks to Steel Town, Pittsburgh will host stars like Holly Hunter, Oscar Isaac (Robin Hood), Viola Davis (Doubt), and director Daniel Barnz (Beastly). Another name we’re all familiar with, Maggie Gyllenhaal (The Dark Knight). Her brother Jake was here back in 2009 and he was awesome! Will she love Pittsburgh as much as her bro? Will she get her own Steelers tramp stamp?
