Carnegie Museum will offer free admission after 3:30pm on Thursday, May 19, 2011

On Thursday, May 19, the Carnegie Museum of Art and the Carnegie Museum of Natural History will offer free entrance after 3:30pm.

It’s something to do with Association of Art Museum Directors’ Art Museum Day (museums think long names makes them sound smarter than libraries). Coincidentally, International Museum Day is on May 18. Why didn’t the CMA and CMNH celebrate this glorious museum holiday on the same day as everyone else in the world is beyond us, but we’ll take “free” any day of the week!

This is a great gesture, but they really should offer free days once a week or once a month at least (if they don’t already). Andrew Carnegie would have wanted that!

The theme of these year’s Museum Day is supposed to be “museum and memory.”

It’s free to get in but how much to park?
Parking in the museum lot is $5 after 3:30pm

I have ADD and didn’t read the paragraph above, when is it again?
Thursday, May 19, 2011 AFTER 3:30pm – so don’t try going at 3pm and expect to get in for free

Win a $15,000 diamond ring, the more hints and clues you find the better your chance!

Are you thinking about popping the big question? Did your hoopty breakdown recently? Are you late with your rent check? This might be your big break! A local jewelry store on Walnut Street in Shadyside is giving away a platinum diamond ring valued at $15,000. But not so fast… you’ll have to earn it first! It’s the Henne Jewelers’ Diamond Dash, and it’s a city-wide treasure hunt that’s free to play.

A flawless $15,000 Mark Patterson diamond has been hidden somewhere in Downtown Pittsburgh…

Pretty generous giveaway considering that their shop was robbed within 8 days of each other at beginning of the year (supposedly they drove a freakin’ truck through the front door).

PopUp Pittsburgh! Up on the Hilltop. May 15th from 1-5 pm.

There will be a bunch of cool stuff to do this weekend at the PopUp Pittsburgh event in the Hilltop. Wait a minute… you mean the Hill District? NO, the Hilltop! All jokes aside, many Pittsburghers never heard of such a place in the city they call home. The Hilltop is a part of town that is comprised of ten neighborhoods in Pittsburgh: Allentown, Arlington, Arlington Heights, Beltzhoover, Bon Air, Carrick, Knoxville, Mt. Oliver Borough, Mount Oliver City,  and St. Clair. PopUp Pittsburgh hopes to spread awareness and “promote an appreciation of the Hilltop community’s current assets and potential, and encourages people from outside the community to experience the richness of the Hilltop’s ten unique neighborhoods.”  In other words.. it’s free!
