Gyllenhaal Out Of Squirrel Hill, In Aliquippa

Seems like a lot of filming going on in Pittsburgh these days – G20 videos on YouTube; Love and Other Drugs shooting near UPitt and in a house on Bartlett Street; a new Russell Crowe movie; The Bridge to Nowhere (as seen above); even a Tony Scott flick starring Denzel Washington!

Could this be Pittsburgh’s emergence into becoming the East-Coast Hollywood? Probably not – but it sure is cool, unless you are battling the movie trailers for a parking spot. That’s the difference between here and there: they have studios designed for this stuff and our streets become their studios (and of course the parking people don’t write them up for occupying 2 blocks of unpaid meters).

PS – Denzel’s movie is called Unstoppable and scenes will be filmed in the Strip District… Subscribe to our feed for more updates. Continue reading + Discuss
