Pittsburgh Mourns Steve Jobs at Shadyside Apple Store (pics)
Pittsburgh paid respects to the late Steve Jobs by laying various items in front of the Shadyside Apple Store in tribute to the Apple co-founder/CEO. Fans showed their appreciation to the God of Apple by offering flowers, thank you notes, money, iPhones/iPods, candles, apples, and a bottle of apple juice.
The shrine was set up beneath a balloon that is carrying a Macbook Air into the heavens. Even though the display has been in the window for a while, you have to wonder if it is a message from Steve to his friends, that all is well and he will always be with them. It’s really nice to think of it that way. Please enjoy the gallery of pics below…

Goodbye Firehouse Lounge and Embury in the Strip
The Firehouse Lounge, which opened in 2004, will close its doors on August 1, 2011. The report in the Post Gazette stated that the owner (Spencer Warren) couldn’t come to a lease agreement with the landlord. We’re not sure if that means the rent was overpriced or the landlord was stubborn, but we can’t help but wonder if it has anything to do with complaints about the noise from folks who live in the Strip District (yes, people do actually live in the Strip).

@trashyleesuh captured this inside look at the new Mad Mex
trashyleesuh – i stood on tip toes to bring you a sneak peek into the mad mex going in on highland ave in shadyside #pittsburgh
Locally owned Big Burrito Group is opening their 10th Mad Mex restaurant on South Highland Avenue in Shadyside – only a few steps away from BBG owned Casbah. Everyone seems excited since Shadyside has a rather lackluster selection of lunch menus, so there’s some hope that Mad Mex will change that. Plus, you no longer have to drive to the ‘burbs when craving a Big Azz Margarita!

MrBaconPants Bacon Bash at Harris Grill
Vegetarians click here. Bacon lovers, read on! MrBaconPants is back in Pittsburgh, this time with the Bacon Bash at Harris Grill on Ellsworth in Shadyside. They really couldn't have picked a better spot for the event. Harris Grill is well known for their bacon nights on Tuesdays. That's where they have baskets of bacon sitting on the bar in place of stale peanuts and pretzels.
Last year, MrBaconPants was at Harris Grill for a bacon tour and it was a huge success. They had a bacon eating competition where some dude ate an entire 3 pounds of bacon in three minutes! 85 people were there chomping on gourmet bacon eats, and that was the day after the G20… this year is bound to be even more exciting.
