Cut Your Own Christmas Tree at Hozak Farms (pics + video)
There’s nothing more boring than plastic Christmas trees from Target, or buying one in the gas station parking lot while filling up the tank. This holiday season, head up to Hozak Farms to pick your own Christmas tree!
It takes a little over 30 minutes to get to the farm from Oakland. A hayride takes you from the parking area to fields full of every kind of Christmas tree imaginable. Park your car, grab a saw, and hop on! If you prefer a certain type, just ask the driver and he’ll point you in the right direction. They also have signs posted in each area.
One of the biggest things to consider when choosing the perfect tree is how big it should be. You don’t want a tree that is too big, but you also don’t want a tree that is too small since the prices are all the same no matter the size. Just keep in mind that you can always cut it to be shorter once you get home.
Remember to get as close to the ground as possible when cutting your Christmas tree. This will give you more to work with when setting it up in a tree stand. Once you’ve sliced all the way through the trunk and yelled “timber,” it’s time to drag your tree back to the muddy road where the hayride will pick up you and your new friend. Just throw your tree on the trailer and hop back on to enjoy the nice ride back.
Hozak Farms will shake out all the loose needles from your Christmas tree and bale it for you so it’s easy to throw on your car. They even provide twine so you can tie your tree to the roof.
It wouldn’t be a holiday trip to the Christmas tree farm without stopping by the Christmas Barn! After securing your tree to the roof of your car, make a left out of the driveway and go 2 miles down the road. They have snacks, hot chocolate, and lots and lots of ornaments for your new tree (plus an outhouse in case you didn’t have the courage to pee behind one of the thousands of other trees).
