Fashionistas and philanthropists, mark your calendars for Thursday, June 7, when Habitat for Humanity of Greater Pittsburgh and The Art Institute of Pittsburgh will host an event called “Hard Hats and High Heels.” If you like fashion, charitable causes and mind-bending creativity, you won’t want to miss this one.
The event aims to increase awareness for Habitat’s new ReStore in Edgewood Towne Center, while at the same time raising funds for the Veteran Housing Initiative. How will they do it? Through fashion – and we’re not talking about Steelers jerseys and Pirates hats. Fashion design students from The Art Institute will debut a clothing collection that incorporates recycled materials from Habitat’s ReStore. Local retailers will also donate outfits that Habitat homeowners and volunteers will model on the runway for a panel of judges, including WTAE’s Wendy Bell and Tall Cathy (@tallcathy) of 96.1 Kiss FM.
“Hard Hats and High Heels” will take place in Oakland’s beautiful Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hall at 7:30 pm. In addition to the runway show, guests will also enjoy a DJ, live entertainment and a silent auction. VIP ticket holders will be treated to a cocktail hour – which includes two free drinks and gourmet treats – plus special seating close to the runway (you know, in that area where Tyra usually sits) and a gift bag full of free swag.
